What is CT Cardiac Scoring?


A CT Cardiac Scoring, also referred to as a Calcium Scoring, is a CT scan to evaluate the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries. Coronary arteries are the vessels that supply oxygen-containing blood to the heart.


Why is the exam done?


Your healthcare provider may recommend a CT Cardiac Scoring if you have risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) including:



  • High cholesterol
  • Family history of heart attacks
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Smoker
  • Obesity
  • Physical inactivity


How should I prepare?

You cannot have any caffeine the day of your appointment.
