What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive exam that uses a powerful magnet, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. MRI does not use x-ray or radioactive materials of any kind. MRI scans are used to accurately characterize disease in virtually any area of the body.

Why is the exam done?

MRI imaging is useful in evaluating the body for various diseases and conditions.

  • Sports injuries
  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Spinal problems
  • Brain disorders
  • Abdominal diseases
  • Tumor detection
  • Malformations of blood vessels
